COBO D5705 Body Lift – Class 15 Preservation Society Press release
On Saturday 24th September 2011, members of the C15PS and Bury Diesel Group successfully lifted unique CO-BO D5705’s body shell from its bogies at Baron St works ELR.

Utilising the ELR’s 75t Rail crane and a 70t hired in road crane the Empty body shell was lifted from its bogies and now safely sits on purpose 50t body stands.

This now opens the door for work to begin on overhauling D5705’s bogies and under-frame.

The traction motors will shortly be removed and sent away for assessment, and then the CO bogie will go undercover for work to renovate the frames, brake rigging, brake cylinders and axle bearings will begin. The BO bogie will follow it once completed.

Vital items on the under-frame will be removed before a shot-blasting firm is utilised in the spring next year to lightly blast and prime the entire under-frame, thus saving hours of volunteer labour time which can be better utilised.

It is hoped that D5705 can be put back on its bogies in around 18-24 months’ time subject to progress and funding.

Of course the majority of the above needs funds to happen, and the C15PS (which are custodians of D5705) have recently launched a bogie appeal for D5705, details of which can be found on their website http://www.d8233.org.uk/5705_bogie_appeal.htm
