25 191
Restoration work continues on 25 191 at Buckfastleigh.  Recent work has seen the cooler group and radiators removed from the loco for overhaul.  The rotten cab floor has been cut out of No 2 end cab ready for new steel plate to be welded in.  The exposed frames and bulkhead have been derusted and primed.

D5705 Bogie Appeal
As some will already know, it is planned to lift CO-BO D5705 from its bogies on saturday 24th September. This will allow the team to begin the restoration of the bogies.

As we all know, this will cost money, something the fund surprisingly for D5705 does not have a lot of at present.

The total cost is unknown at present, until the 5 traction motors are lifted out and sent away for assessment we will not know the full cost of the repairs needed to them.

The bogies themselves should not need a great amount of money to get back in fettle, mainly consumables and some rebushing work on the brake rigging.

Due to the complex nature of the body lift and the specialist equipment required to ensure we do not put any risk to this unique machine, the current fund has enough available to lift it off and lift it back on the bogies later down the line.

What I’m appealing for is contributions, big and small (every little helps)  for the work and materials in between. There is no time scale, D5705 will remain on stands until the bogies are ready, which could be 12/18 or 24 months maybe even longer, it all depends on funding.

If you can help no matter how small, it is appreciated and recognised in these tough economic times, you can either set up a regular standing order on the details below:

Account Name: COBO Locomotive Group
Sort Code: 05-03-55
Account Number: 20318656

or send a donation (cheque/postal order) made payable to:

If you do set up a standing order, please contact me on the details below to let me know so we can include you in the contributors list.
Many thanks

Scrap Metal Petition
Numerous Heritage Railway’s have suffered from metal thefts recently.  Please see the following link petitioning to require scrap merchants to make payments for scrap by means other than cash, this has been brought up on a railway company’s forum, however in view of repeated thefts from railways we wish to promote this.
