South Devon Diesel Traction have started restoration work on their recently purchased Class 25, 25191.  Work has started on preparing No. 2 end cab for removal for extensive repairs and fabrication work.  A website has been set up to allow people to follow the restoration work on the loco, this can be found at www.25191.co.uk

Work continued last weekend on fault finding.  No 1 compressor wasn’t making air so it was decided to remove the compressor head.  We found that the valves had seized, so a good clean up with WD 40 did the trick.  We had a brake fault on the vacuum side which was sorted.

No 1 engine requires overhauled fuel pumps and injectors.  Martin Walker as very kindly agreed for us to have his spare set, it as been agreed that we will remove the old ones from power unit 457 and send them the Colchester fuel injection.  Martin will have them in return.

Metropolitan Shuttles

Robin Morel’s photo of Metropolitan Railway  No 12, 1923 Vintage Metropolitan Vickers 1200hp (4 x 300hp motors), capable of 65mph, the oldest working main line electric loco in the UK seen at Watford (Met) on Sunday 22nd May’s  series of Shuttle trains.

20 227 and 20 189 on the other end as no run round facilty, Photo Robin Morel. And before you ask, Sarah Siddons (5/7/1755-8/6/1831) was an 18th century actress.
