55002 – news from the KOYLI Group

55002 was started for the first time in 14 years last Saturday after overhaul.  As can be expected after so long out of use it came with various faults, including a coolant flow switch not working, compressor faults and control air.  No 2 engine is basically OK now with no problems to report.  No 1 engine has fuel pump and injector problems which will require changing, so it was decided to “pin it out”

On Sunday more fault finding found a blown fuse for the compressor and No 1 cubicle had it’s air supply isolated.  No 2 engine was started, compressors worked, put the AWS in that worked and it took power.  Fantastic.  More checks to do this Friday and Saturday, please come along.

Steam Railmotor shed opening & railcar lineup event at Didcot

Ok, so it’s neither a diesel or electric, but is definitely newsworthy given that it demonstrates the evolution of self-propelled trains.

There will be a line-up featuring Steam Railmotor No 93, a static push-pull train, GWR Diesel Railcar No 22, a “121 bubble car”, a “165 turbo unit” and a brand new, straight from the works “172” unit. (Courtesy of FGW and Chiltern Trains).

Didcot’s three day event is Saturday/Sunday/Monday 28/29/30 May, with the launch taking place at 1130 on Saturday. One hour later, the new steam railmotor shed will be officially opened.
