40106 out on the mainline today

Green 40106 was tripped from the Nene Valley Railway to Washwood Heath earlier today, the drag being carried out by green 31190. Quite a rarity to see two heritage loco classes that are both in green on today’s rail network. This was also 40106’s first trip out on mainline metals since the early 1990s. It travelled to the Coalville open day in June 1990: http://www.preserved-diesels.co.uk/2005b/40106_8.htm then Cambridge, Kings Lynn, Ruislip and finally Doncaster open day in 1992.

Midland Railway – Butterley Diesel Gala – 21st & 22nd May

Unfortunately 40012 and 50007 have had to be withdrawn owing to problems suffered over the harsh winter months. We wish the Class 40 Appeal well in getting repairs completed.

However, 44004 “Great Gable” has been added to the line up. This is thanks to the Peak Locomotive Company.

The website has been updated. This is available at http://www.mrbevents.co.uk/Diesel_Gala_2011/Webpage/Diesel_Gala_2011.htm

A timetable for the event is available at http://www.mrbevents.co.uk/Diesel_Gala_2011/Webpage/Public_Timetable_Diesel_Gala_2011.doc in word format.

As there are many blue locomotives running, there is a 1980’s theme to the event. Anybody who comes in a 1980’s vehicle will be able to have Half Price entry to the event!

55002 restoration news

The air filters have arrived for fitting above the main generators.  Work continued on priming the fuel systems on both engines and No 1 engine was filled with coolant after header tank repairs.  Both engines have now spun over with the new batteries.  Repairs to the fire alarm circuit were completed.

The loco is now ready for starting and should happen in the next few weeks.
