Loco restoration news

50050 has been inside the shed at Yeovil since early December.

The loco is having contract bodywork repairs. The first cabside is already done, the second has had the cab sheeting stripped off. Frame work will be replaced before the new skin goes on this Friday.

All four cabsides plus the roof will be reskinned. 6 new roof hatches are being fitted at the moment too. The loco’s guttering will be replaced.

55002 has seen the batteries put on charge.  They are slowly starting to pick up and hopefully should be fully charged soon.

The loco was turned on the turntable recently to allow No 2 cooler group to be fitted.  It is still waiting for parts to complete it which, hopefully, should be done this weekend.

A start has been made on painting the cabs, seen the engine room doors painted and the inside of the cab doors.

… and another headboard goes up for grabs from the Class 40 Preservation Society

This is the actual headboard carried by 40 145 and D1015 on the 3rd CFPS organised railtour of the preservation era; the “East Lancs Champion”.  It is a fully cast metal headboard.  This is ex-loco.

The tour (1Z40 outward, 1Z52 return) ran from Crewe to Penzance and the Cornish Branches on the weekend of Saturday 15th and 16th May 2010.  This tour saw the first class 40 to a number of locations, including Newquay.  It also saw the 40 and the Western double heading; the first such occurrence on a passenger train.

The auction closes at 22.02 on Sunday 27th march so get bidding!
